Logo

The Glen Rock Carolers Logo was made from a
photo of Caroler Charles Miller, taken in 1971 wearing
the prototype Carolers’ Uniform.  In 1972, all Carolers
got this type of uniform. The woolen great coats and
capes were made by the Ostwald Uniform Company
in Staten Island, New York, from wool imported from
Scotland. The scarves were knitted by local Glen Rock
residents.  Grey top hats and black canes with brass
name bands complete the uniform. The lamp post
cutouts were made by Michael Schmidt and are
located on lamp posts at the boro parking lot
between the Arthur Hufnagel Library and
Mama’s Pizza.  Some Carolers have
the logo on their homes.

The logo of a single Caroler symbolizes the Lone Caroler, George Shaw, who, in one of the early years, perhaps around 1851, didn't want to be responsible for the tradition to end. When the older singers decided that the weather was too cold, windy, and miserable to perform the trek, the youngest member went out alone, thereby continuing the tradition we know today back to 1848. The honor and responsibility of the Lone Caroler, was revived in 2020 when the pandemic looked like it might be responsible for ending the tradition. There is now an individual, the 50th Caped Caroler, who is asked to be prepared to travel as the Lone Caroler should a situation arise preventing the group from performing. This logo of a single Caroler represents the ongoing dedication and importance of every individual Caroler.

These Carolers have served in the 50th position
as the Lone Caroler since the pandemic of 2020:
2020: George Brown
2021: Jacob Machulcz
2022: Craig Rohrbaugh
2023: Shane Bahn
